If you're into ASOIAF and have an internet connection, you probably know Yecats Miniatures and their YouTube channel. I've visited the channel as a guest a couple of times and as I was on a holiday in UK, we agreed to have a game at his house, near London.
I've been building The Others army since 2019, it was originally designed by Yannic & co. for the 1.5 season of Song but has now been redesigned by Board man gaming, find it here.
Since familiarizing myself with Shane's (BMG) awesome work, I've been brooding to play with them again. This week it happened with a club mate Ilmo, playing Greyjoys
Finished some paint jobs too:
FF Heroes converted: Harma, Rattleshirt, Styr, Weaper & Great Walrus
Some more armoured troops, including a converted Styr's chosen.
We have quite a competitive Song scene at our Nopat &Taktiikka club in Helsinki and we wanted to play something else for a change. We have already played Battle of Bastards and now it was time for an epic scenario from the first book, or should I say inspired by it. Check out the scenario here
ASOAIF community is buzzing about the approaching release (hopefully during Q4 this year) of this new faction for our favorite game! Last weekend in Gencon (US) the starter set and minis were shown to the public for the first time. Based on what was seen there and some information leaked before, the community has stitched together enough resources to facilitate actually giving Martells a go!
This week we played a first game with them, facing their current allies - House Targaryen!
In my 2021 retrospect and 2022 plans post I wrote, that SWL would be one of the five focus games for 2022 and BRS would be a game I would come back to (as would Infamy Infamy be as well, see a separate post on that). This plan has now come reality as I've has a pretty good "heat" with Star Wars Legion and Blood Red Skies playing has also been started recently and next games for both of them shall be played next week!
At our club we have plenty of suitable terrain for Star Wars. Mates from the club have even adapted Dead Man's Hand rules to Star Wars. They call them Mos Espoo :-D
With Blood Red Skies I have so far only played with Imperial Japan. My plan is to paint some planes for Finland and Soviets too.
Winter War tournament has for many many years been the largest wargaming event in Finland, organized by our club Nopat & Taktiikka. It caters tournaments for many games including The 9th Age, Flames of War, MESBG, Bolt Action and this year for the first time ASOIAF TMG. I was organizing this tournament with my mate Jaakko as the second TO. Read all about it!
After two rounds I had a minor loss and a crushing victory under my belt and needed to win this battle to seriously compete for victory in this tournament. Facing Lannisters again I decided to go again with my MOD -list.
Pasi played his Tywin Lannister list:

An obvious choice was to play my Mother of Dragons list against slow moving, heavily armoured Baratheons.
In our cup several comps are in effect, mostly on NW, but as nobody is playing NW, the only one worth noting is the dragons doingD3+2 wounds, instead of D3+3
As a tournament house rule or comp Dragons would "only" do D3+2 wounds with their attack. There were also several restrictions to Nightswatch, but none of the participants chose to play them...
So Napoleon and his Grande Armee had reached Moscow during the first part of our campaign, and now it was time to retreat... set simple objectives:
Napoleon (me) would win if he could get 2/3 of his force beyond Berezina river in 5 campaign rounds
Alexander (Jaakko) would win if Russians could annihilate more than 1/3 of the Grande Armee
Rules for the retreat phase (adapted Dawns & Departures by Too Fat Lardies)
We skipped rules for supplying the forces
Grande Armee groups would suffer shock equal to Round number - (D3+1)
Russian Groups would suffer shock equal to Round number - (D3)
+1 would be added to the D3 roll if there was more than 60p. in the column or if the column moved more than one area
Russian forces were 4 divisions of 60 points
Grande Armee was a total of 180 points
French starting moves
We individually informed Marko, our Umpire, about our scouting and movement plans, he then proceeded to roll the dice for initiative and movement (terrain impacting). He then announced how we succeeded and where forces collided and battles erupted. Muchos Gracias Marko!
Free Folk have become our archenemies in the campaign... as you can see from the map our provinces are adjacent to theirs in many places and on Round 2. they defeated my Bannerman Atte and snatched a province from us. And yes, they've been leading the campaign for couple of rounds... our brave Tully faction hanging close behind on second place. So dared ourselves to seek vengeance and on round 3. we chose a Campaign Event to be able to challenge them, even if they had already been challenged. This battle was solved as a large (+50p.) team game. On round 4. I continued our mission to try an beat them and challenged them again. This blogpost presents these two battles... brace yourself!
