ASOIAF: REALMS OF BATTLE 2025 in Warsaw

Had once again great time in the largest Song-tournament of the year with some 160 players in Warsaw. This time my tournament success was just awful, but luckily the games were pretty good and tight: two ties (victory through points on the table), 2 x 1 point defeat, 1 x 2 point defeat (also one crushing victory and one crushing defeat). Even better was to meet with old friends from the Song community and to get a couple of new ones - special mention to Andras from Romania, whom hanged out with Team Finland (aka Monsters from the North) on Sunday evening and on Monday. One highlight of this trip was also to visit Wargamer HQ, where we mostly buy our toys for Song and other wargames. Thanks for hosting us Michal and Tomasz!

Some of the pictures are by Warfactory (source Facebook) and some by Antti (Rivarama).

Saturday

Game 1. with Ole from H&C Team Clash of Kings

Ole was a really nice opponent. He took the victory with 1 point.

Game 2. Fire and Blood

Victarion mirror... talking about eating your own bloody medicine!

No pictures from this on. I was playing against Agish, whom has Elo 2000+ even if I lost the first game!
I was holding my own for first couple of rounds... If I only would have killed his Asha Silent men... got them to 2 wound and then they killed my bowmen and scored 6 VP...
No pictures as it was so intense. I was forced to play with a chess clock, which I'm not used to and it did bother me some.

Game 3. Feast for Crows

I had now dropped so low in the rankings, that I faced a new player. Not surprisingly a wipe out victory for me. I hope, that at least I helped him to learn several rules of the game. Pawel's Lannister list was fresh change to the meta lists I usually face.

Game 4. Game of Thrones vs, Krzysztof's Mag-list

Now faced a young player, whom plaued his cards really well and managed a 2 point victory.

Even if I got the first kill and his spear chuckers didn't really hit much anything on their 6+ shots.
But Mag did Mag smash...

Sunday

Game 5. DWDW vs. Arkadiusz

Very tight and tactical game vs. a good NW list. It was looking good, when my 2+ save Ironmakers were holding the centre objective and scoring 3 VP... Too bad, that my double tap from Victarion couldn't finish his Shadow tower spearmen... then the Ironmakers succumbed to several crossbow shots with some failed panic tests... Arkadiusz won with points on the table.

Game 6. Honed and Ready with Antoni

Targaryens this time. It started well, as I managed to take out Khal and his Bloodriders as he overreached with them. Then his screamers destroyed two of my units in one go with overrun.
His Unsullied took 4 shots from the wall and each of them resulted in just a 1 wound! If I would have destroyed them with those shots, it would have been an easier game. Now I managed a victory with points on the table.

Game 7. Here we stand with Piotr

Got the first kill and a wolf pelt... made a mistake in keeping my Pillagers alive too long, they would have scored lot more points in holding a quarter when Piotr only had 2 units left. Another 1 point loss.

Conclusion

I was pleased to play against so many different armies - I only faced Lannister twice. I was really surprised by my low performance this time, I felt quite confident entering the tournament. Then again the level of player skill in Poland is very high and 5 / 7 games were really tight: 2 games decided with points on the table, 2 x 1 point losses and one loss with 2 points.

But hey, tight games are the best, this time I didn't win them, but had a really good time!

Top 3

So I was Very far from top three, but one of my goals was achieved: my Greyjoy army was rewarded as the best army in the tournament!
This made me very happy, as I’ve been painting them since August.
See them paraded here
