Armies on Parade: Commonwealth forces in World War 2 - Updated 12.5.2025
British army without so many Brits
Update 12.5.2025
After watching the 2nd season of Rogue Heroes from MAX I just had to kitbash and paint my own too!
WIP
This project started long ago by painting a unit of Gurkhas, but with the release of Australian forces and New Guinea Campaign Book it really kicked of during 2017 and 53 models were either painted from the scratch or finished (more Gurkhas).
So far they've only fought one battle as a force, but more will certainly come this spring as we continue the New Guinea campaign. Read on see more pics of the army.

Play testing Rebels & Patriots - new ruleset coming from Osprey
Games for French and Indian Wars
& American War of Independence
Our friend Micke aka Dalauppror from Stockholm contacted me and asked if we'd like to play test draft rules he's working on with Daniel Mersey. Me and several others gamers from our Nopat & Taktiikka -club stood ready for action! It was quite easy for us, as we have played quite a lot of their previous rulesets like Lion Rampant and specially The Pikemans Lament (see my AAR's for the Russo-Swedish aka "Finnish War 1808").
Here's the announcement from Micke regarding this project. A small caption of it:
We are glad to announce that we (Daniel Mersey and Michael Leck) are once again teaming up with Osprey Games to bring you a new set of wargaming rules!
Rebels and Patriots will be a set of easy to learn and fast-moving miniature wargaming rules offering you the chance to lead small armies of soldiers across the North American continent in the late eighteenth to mid-nineteenth centuries. The rules are written with a focus at conflicts on the North American continent from The French and Indian War (1754–1763), through The American War of Independence (1775-1783), War of 1812 (1812–1815), Texas Revolution (1835-1836), Mexican–American War (1846-1848), up to the American Civil War (1861-1865).

Moonshine Revolution
Finnish-Swedish Military Co-operation continues
REPORT IS COMPLETED
Once again two Nopat-club members braved themselves for the hardships and traveled all the way
to the capital of the Swedish Empire. There we joined like-minded generals and had some delightful Musket Mayhem at the American Revolutionary War, or should I say Rebellion!

Bolt Action: Demo game for a New Player
Japanese tide in Singapore
Henri called out for a demo game in our BA FB group and I was certainly up to it. It gave me a good reason to rapid paint some more miniatures for my British / Commonwealth force, as I needed to bring two forces to the table.

Conquering England - Battle of Hastings 1066
Nopat & Taktiikka Club's Traditional Summer Cabin Trip
It was once again time to enjoy the Finnish summer by heading to the country side with good friends, dozens of beer cans and hundreds of toy soldiers... and to stay crammed in a small cabin for hours and hours drinking the beer and rolling the dice. The companions were:
King Harold (Sebastian) and his brothers (in arms) Juha and Antti
-proudly displaying the new Club T-shirt (and Karhu-beer, in English bear-beer)
...and commanding the defending the Anglo-Saxon fyrds
And the somewhat more crazy AND arrogant Norman lords:
Duke William (aka Kalle) and his vassals my self and Aleksis
What madness would follow from this you wonder... read on to find out! (Sorry about the unsharpness of some of the pictures - lightning conditions were very challenging.

Testing the New Saga Supplement: Aetius & Arthur
Roma Victor!
Since Hamburger Tactica, where I acquired the plastic Gripping beast box of late Romans and some metal blisters as well, I've been building up my 6 point late Roman Warband. So far I've played two games with them: 1 against Saxons played by Timo and one against Britons played by Sami. Below you'll find reports (WIP - first game done) from the games and my thoughts on how the roman board works.

Bolt Action Day @ Nopat Club
HQ-Raid in the Far East
We had an "Open House" for Bolt Action today at our Club. This meant we had set up BA games on good looking gaming tables and people could come and play, even without own minis or previous experience. We had a full house (including few 9th Age -players in the midst) with couple of new players wanting to try it out. I was hosting a scenario from the Empires in Flames -book: HQ Raid, where British troops were attacking a village with a local Japanese HQ. All Japs & Gurghas painted by me, Chindits painted by Mikko. I was playing with my friend Ludde and his pals quite new to the game. They preferred not be presented in the blog, hence the "masking" of faces.
