Final rush to finish the painting year 2020 - Updated 7th of Jan 2021.

So many started miniatures...

FINAL SCORE is 581+107=688

As my (not so good?) habit is, I quite often quickly paint up miniatures to be "battle field ready", but not quite finished. Then, as the end of the year approaches, I focus on finishing as many as I can. I never manage to finish all, that I've started, hence my painting tracking on this blog separates miniatures finished (started before this year) and miniatures painted from scratch.

Examples of my final rushes in recent years:

I always post my latest paintings in Instagram - my username is "wanhaherrat" (old sire T) - follow me there for latest updates! This blogpost contains first a summary of miniatures finished since summer and then I'll update more pictures, as I finish them before end of the year. First half of the year on my painting desk is reviewed here.

As I'm publishing this blogpost on 19th of December my count is:

  • 19th of December: 468 painted from scratch and 83 finished
  • 26th of December 491 painted from scratch and 83 finished  (+23)
  • 29th of December 515 painted from scratch and 83 finished  (+24)
  • 1st of January 581 painted from scratch and 107 finished  (+90)
  • 7th of Jan Update: more pictures and YouTube video spins added
  • 8th of Jan Update: more pictures and YouTube video spins added

Samurai! - post updated.

Samurais and Songoku-jidai period in Wargaming

Notice: this is more or less the same content as published at https://sculptingpaintingandgaming.com/

Have been my interest for years and years and I've been collecting my Sengoku-Jidai -period army for a long time - but haven't really had that many games, as there has not been other players with similar armies. After all Japanese mainly fought each other during this era. The few games I've had with them before have been quite weird indeed: Warhammer Fantasy fan made army list and fighting Late Imperial Romans, Pike & Shotte rules and fighting 17th century Swedes and then finally a P&S game against Mongols (I was soundly beaten), that at least had some historical relevance.

Three player Zen Saga!

Battle & murder at the monastery

This months Saga Game Night was about fan made battle boards. I had recently discovered and played Fantastic Saga pitting my Greek Hoplites (and Ares) against Jaakko's Undead, but for this evening I wanted to "re-enact" my experience from Hamburger Tactica (2014), where Patrick & co. from Kurpfalz Feldherren were running the same scenario with the best looking games table, I had ever seen (until I saw more tables from them next year!).

Sohei Buntai and a new start for Ronin (by Osprey)

Fight for the Temple

The long wait to get back into "Samurai-gaming" was finally over. Throughout the fall of 2017 we had been chatting about getting a small Ronin campaign going with my mates Joonas and Juha (a 4th player needed!). Joonas had the responsibility to get us organized, but our good doctor seemed too busy... Finally in our club's Christmas party (held in January) I managed to corner him and we agreed this date our calendars!

MDF Japanese Buildings

New terrain for both Sengogu & WW2 periods

As I'm planning to try out Kings of War Historical with my Samurai era -army and preparing an airfield raid -scenario for Bolt Action, I was fired up to build my Sarissa Precision Japanese buildings, that I've had for a year or so (probably two).

Something else for a change - Sengogu period japanese peasants

My rather large Sengogu period japanese army (for Hail Caesar / Pike & Shotte / Ronin) has been on waiting mode for a while, but a Bolt Action -game (played yesterday) got me painting these peasants. In the game I had two units of 10 sharpened bamboo spear armed green troops. All of them duly died in the game, but both made it to melee and this unit in the pic even held an objective for moment - before being shot to pieces by concentrated fire from Mikko's Chindits.

Even if these minis were rather quickly painted, I think they came out quite ok. I'm specially pleased with the fresh cut bamboo spears, made from plastic pikes. Inspiration was found here.

Miniatures are from Perry and Museum Miniatures.
