Pretty nuts... So I thought, that last year's (2022) 150 game sessions and 79 of the Song was a lot, but 2023 must be a record breaking year: I played 194 times and 134 out of those were Song!

ASOIAF: Polish Nationals

 Largest Song Tournament in the World so Far!

With some mates from the club we had already discussed for some time, that visiting a tournament in Central Europe and specially in Poland (as they've had several large tournaments) would be cool. After a very positive experience in visiting Swedish Nationals in May, three of signed up for Poland. We expected the tournament to exceed 100 players, but it eventually 171 players from 7 countries battled it out. Many of the pictures are a courtesy from Warfactory Poland.

 Winter War 2023

Nopat & Taktiikka Wargaming Club, Helsinki, organizes the traditional and annual major wargaming event every winter since many, many years. For a couple of years Song has been one of the seven or so different tournaments in the event. This time we agreed with CMON to have the Finnish Nationals status and this boosted our tournament to a new record in players (26, 18 last year) and broiught a flux of players from abroad too! We also received a generous prize support from CMON - THANK YOU!

It had been a long while since I had played in a Bolt Action tournament, even if BA has remained one of my top 5 games through the years and recently I ran a Combined Arms -campaign at the club.

So it was a real joy to have players from all around Finland to come together and mettle their strenght in Bolt Action.

I was fortunate enough to pull a tournament win this time with three straight victoeries in my games.

Tournament was played with 4 allied players vs. 4 axis players and matching players was based on this (aka not pure SWISS)

Winter War tournament has for many many years been the largest wargaming event in Finland, organized by our club Nopat & Taktiikka. It caters tournaments for many games including The 9th Age, Flames of War, MESBG, Bolt Action and this year for the first time ASOIAF TMG. I was organizing this tournament with my mate Jaakko as the second TO. Read all about it!

Looking back at 2021... we learned to cope with Covid-19 and with 2 vaccinations at least my hobby life was pretty normal, excluding large tournaments. Read on to learn about my wargaming and it's high lights.

After two rounds I had a minor loss and a crushing victory under my belt and needed to win this battle to seriously compete for victory in this tournament. Facing Lannisters again I decided to go again with my MOD -list.

August ASOIAF-tournament part 1/2

 Our community is growing!

I / we have organized many a tournaments at our wargaming club Nopat ja Taktiikka in Helsinki. I believe this was the first time we had eight players. This is a two part tournament with 2 X three games. Second part will be played in two week's time (23rd of August 2020). At least 5 of today's participants will play at the second part too - there we have 10 players enrolled.

New Age for Nights Watch

New players are joining our community here in Helsinki and specially at our Wargaming Club Nopat & Taktikka (Dice & Tactics). That's the welcome result of actively promotion of the game by arranging game nights with demos to new players, running a map based campaign and by monthly tournaments, always organized by the previous winners. That's the only way to put it, really. When I think of 2019, it is really dictated by a new game, The Song of Ice and Fire Tabletop Miniatures Game. I played lots of other games too, but this was a clear number one on my agenda, on any metric. Read on to learn how my hobby year 2019 was!

Song of Ice and Fire by CMON Games is a rather young game combining elements of modern board games and unit based & skirmish wargaming.

About a year ago we bought the starter set with a mate from our Nopat & Takriikka Club and I’ve been sold ever since! Number of players in Finland is not yet great, some 15 maybe, but the number is growing. In order to “build the community” I decided to organise a tournament for the game. Saga tournament - tactics analyzed

with three games and 4 players. Saga is a good game for tournament playing and

couple of us are preparing / trying to qualify for Saga World Cup, to be played in London

in August this year.

Several new or returning players joined the ranks of us veterans and once again Adrian took up the mantle of a TO. Soon players were flocking in and we had a tournament with 12 players all set at the club!

Nopat Club’s traditional summer weekend: Bolt action!

Pacific Theatre Campaign Day 

A great tradition of gentlemanly summer weekend with wargaming, good friends, cold drinks, fat cigars and hot sauna has been established at our club. You can find blurry accounts of previous sessions in my blog.

This time we decided to run a kind of team tournament with a Pasific team.

Finally the days had arrived! Nopat & Taktiikka Club's famous Winter War Tournament Weekend

with some 150 players fighting it out in some 7 different game systems including 40K, 9th Age, FoW, Bolt Action, Infinity, Guildball and SAGA!

I had been organizing the Saga-tournament since November and was delighted to finally get into action! Unfortunately 2 out of 8 players had cancelled, but as you can see, the committed bunch of Warlords started the day in very good humours!

Definitive highlight of the day was to have long chat and a demo about Saga 2.0 with 

Grippingbeast's chief Chum Andy. Very interesting changes coming to Saga I must say!

Players from around Finland gathered to play a 400p. LOTR SBG tournament at Nopat Club. I decided early on to play with Elves. As the deadline for delivering lists arrived, I only had started to draft my list, but had to send the first draft... Well I wasn't going to be playing that die hard anyway...
