Sengoku-jidai Map Based Campaign Started - First Battle

Six Daimyo / Sohei Abbots fight for POWER!

If you've followed my Instagram account at "Wanhaherrat" you've seen "Samurai era" miniatures painted and Test of Honour games played. We'll, this is the reason. You can read about the campaign and follow my Warband's campaign progress here. Read on to see how my first battle went down.

Spying games

For my first battle I was challenged by Kalle-san and his Clan Uesugi forces. We played "the Spy" -scenario from the ToH rulebook.

Both players had dressed up for the occasion!

Deployment & Scenario

In this scenario, there are three potential places (see tokens and civilian models on top), where one must search the spy from. One model / group must spend an activation and can only search once per location.

I deployed my commander and his bandit followers to the left flank and my Sohei and some Ikko-ikki to the right. Enemy deployment was quite central, not counting one spearmen group, which was deployed to their extreme right.

Potential spy locations

Approach

Both forces started approaching the village as fast as tehy could. On round 2. first arrows
were loosed too, but were quite hindered. I thought my Sohei archers were good shooters...

I got a Faith card allowing my Followers to move towards the nearest enemy and this got my groups into the village. A bit contested though.
Kalle's Samurai Hero had dashed to a potential spy, but didn't discover her...
This gave my mounted companion the opportunity to charge him and the Samurai had no actions left to try and avoid... first blood!

Found & Lost

My mounted companion then proceeded to find the Spy, but that joy
only lasted for a moment, as Kalle's Devoted Samurai (companion) charged in and dropped my rider!

Luckily I had my peasants to keep that dastardly Samurai busy and that bought time
for my Bandit Chief Gisaku Nomone and his goonies to approach...

Soon the enemy Devoted Samurai was surrounded by my forces...

...and Gisaku grapped the Spy from his hands.

Gisaku started to retreat, while his followers were keeping the enemy at bay...
until one group of Masked spearmen broke through and challenged him!

Suddenly several enemy men were harassing him! Even the battered Samurai
companion charged in, and managed to grab the Spy!

My retaliation was a disgrace!
I think I even took a Dishonour card to get the extra die!

But eventually there was a limit to devotion!
Seriously blooded Samurai companion collapsed and Kalle-san had no more
characters on the field of battle and his followers broke and fled.

My wounded, mounted Sohei Companion
recovered from his wounds.

Gisuke Nomone learned the "Mob tactics" skill.

As my campaign action I grabbed a mountainous area on the map and started a gold mine there.
Also conquered one of Uesugi provinces as I had crushed my enemy, peasants in this province
joined the rebellion!
