Good ol' games back on the menu: Star Wars Legion and Blood Red Skies

 Decisions made

In my 2021 retrospect and 2022 plans post I wrote, that  SWL would be one of the five focus games for 2022 and BRS would be a game I would come back to (as would Infamy Infamy be as well, see a separate post on that). This plan has now come reality as I've has a pretty good "heat" with Star Wars Legion and Blood Red Skies playing has also been started recently and next games for both of them shall be played next week!

At our club we have plenty of suitable terrain for Star Wars. Mates from the club have even adapted Dead Man's Hand rules to Star Wars. They call them Mos Espoo :-D

With Blood Red Skies I have so far only played with Imperial Japan. My plan is to paint some planes for Finland and Soviets too.

Star Wars

I saw The New Hope (Episode IV) in the movies, when I was 9 years old, it was 1981. Ever since I've been a Star Wars fan. I've played the old Star Wars Miniatures Game and some X-Wing too. When SWL was released, I was onboard from the get go. I don't know why, but it never took off in a big scale at our club - many players have the miniatures, but it's not played much.
For  me it's always been a casual / fluff -mode game. It could certainly be played competitively, but I'd rather enjoy this one with a "pew pew, swoosh" mindset.

This year I so far have 3 skirmish games under my belt - all with a long time club fellow Herkko, who's approach is quite similar and  he also has a resin printer... I've mostly played Imperials vs. Herkko's rebels, but recently we turned the table.

Small Iden Versio lead Imperial Task Force striking at a small rebel outpost on Hoth.
ATAT is a terrain piece. (Disclaimer: I don't know why blogger and my Mac can't get the pictures into the order I want, so they are in a quite random order... sorry)

Leya and some Fleet troopers make a desperate final rush
towards my troops... it did not end well for rebels

In the end of our first game Chewie and Iden faced off and engaged in a melee -
 Iden came out as winner!

AT-AT provided good cover for my troops, laying heavy fire
at enemy positions

Stuff I've painted / am painting for Legion

Blood Red Skies

We bought or actually pre-ordered BRS when it was first released. We tried the game with some 6 planes on each side and our experience wasn't so positive: "there's nothing much happening in this game!"
I decided to give it another go and I'm glad I did! Adding more planes, specially bombers, made the scenarios and games far more interesting. Interest to the game has stirred at the club and I do look forward to playing more, even if not as a "priority game" to me. I bought  Combined arms by Warlord Games and BRS will fit that bill nicely.
