2nd half of 2021 on my painting desk - Updated 5th of Jan 2022

Lots of ASOIAF and a mix of other stuff...

COUNTDOWN TOWARDS THE END OF 2021

Here's a summary of minis I've painted since my review of H1 and a focus on ASOIAF painting.

As it stands on Christmas Eve:

I've been very lazy or simply not focused on finishing stuff, that I've started earlier than 2021,
only six more after H1.

Then again, 259 minis painted and finished from scratch during H2
and this number will increase significantly still before years end as I have many a minis
I've started but not yet finished, including a whole Baratheon for ASOIAF!
So follow this blog post to find out how far I get!

Plenty of Song

During the second half of 2021 my Song-painting has focused on the new  releases and Baratheons. I bought a large Baratheon from a friend, whom wanted to focus on other games. Even after selling a starter's worth of them (the painted ones), I've been gradually painting and also playing with them - even making it to top three in one of our Nopat & Taktiikka tournaments

In August and September I played Night's Watch in our tournaments (not surprisingly
winning the September tourney, so I painted some NW Attachments

And as soon as they arrived (from Singapore): NW Heroes 2.!

As we moved on to fall, another map based Song Campaign was launched. I chose to
play Targaryens and hence I naturally wanted to paint my brand new Targaryen Heroes 2. unit and other resources,

New Starks

Converted Winterfell Guardian / Hedge Knight

Other Song stuff

Start of a Baratheon army

Song terrain from the original Kick starter

I was fortunate to get an opportunity to buy this stuff from Brett Lanphert.
The funny thing is, bases of these plastic terrains are much larger than their 2D counterparts one uses in games...

More CMON: minis for Eric Lang's Board Games

This fall we've also played Rising Sun and ANKH - Gods of Egypt, so
painting more stuff for these awesome games has been on the agenda

ANKH!

Gods of Egypt (Only Isis is ready)

Movie brands

I've played way too few Star Wars Legion games this year, but at least I
did some painting...

Droid Army

Marvel Crisis Protocol

My second biggest game (on number of games played this year) is Marvel Crisis Protocol, so quite a few minis were painted for it too (few still to finish)

Guardians of the Galaxy

Defenders

Sengoku Campaign

Continued even after summer, so some more minis were painted / finished to my Ikko-Ikki / Sohei / Bandit -army, which eventually won the campaign.

Bolt Action - Soviets for Stalingrad

Another campaign, another army!

Conclusion

As my final focused almost purely on ASOIAF Baratheons (see them above), quite a few (I think 100+) started but not finished miniatures where left in that state. My educated guess is, that during 2022 this category will score a much higher figure - simply finishing all the Baratheon units I've already started will produce some 50 minis in it.

Painted from scratch is still showing a decent figure. What is special about last years painting is this: I introduced a new category - heroes and it shows 74 painted minis, for example all the Marvel characters.

In previous years I've categorized them into infantry or cavalry. Painting hero or heroine models obviously takes a bit longer then painting your regular rank and file John Doe. When you add to this the decent number - 19 - on Monster & Gods, it tells the same tale: a few less minis painted then previous years, but many of them have been of grander scaled and higher detail, also more fun to paint!

IN TOTAL these two tables sum up to 504 painted miniatures during 2021, this is less then previous years (688 / 2020 and 679 / 2019 ), but I think of good quality. I've also spent more of my hobby time playing and some of my free time has been donated to our new family member Yoda - not a bad preference!
